The PASCAR Governing Council and the Inaugural Hypertension Task Force Meeting: 2014 / 10 / 27
PASCAR has engaged and adopted the ‘The 10 Best Buys’ to combat heart disease, diabetes and stroke in Africa with hypertension management as the first priority. PASCAR needs to take real measurement of the condition and the challenges but also the opportunities that exist in developing credible preventive programs with the following elements:
• Clinical and very practical guidelines that answer the specific questions related to high blood pressure in Africa,
• Implementation plan with the use of the World Health Organisation-Africa policy,
• Monitoring, evaluation and regular revision

Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) is the most common acquired heart disease in children in many countries of the world, especially in developing countries. The global burden of disease caused by rheumatic fever currently falls isproportionately on children living in the developing world, especially where poverty is widespread.
