Pan-African Society of Cardiology (PASCAR), World Heart Federation (WHF) and African Heart Network (AHN): Mini-Grants for RHD Advocacy FINAL REPORT from Instituto Nacional de Saúde, Moçambique/National Public Health Institute, Mozambique. Non-Communicable Diseases Division, with the presence of the Scientific Director, the Head of the Department of Research and the Coordinators of Masters Degrees Programs at the National Public Health Institute.

PASCAR is an organisation (established in 1981) of physicians from across Africa involved in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease. PASCAR’s Governing Council consists of a core group of committed individuals with extraordinary knowledge of the African cardiovascular environment and the passion to make a difference.

An historic assembly took place in Zambezi Sun, Livingstone Zambia bringing together Africa’s leading experts in rheumatic heart disease (RHD) to design a roadmap for the control and elimination of the disease in Africa.

The Pan African Pulmonary hypertension Cohort (PAPUCO) platform was launched in May 2011, at the PASCAR meeting held in Kampala, Uganda.

PASCAR presented a lecture at the World Congress of Cardiology, held in Melbourne, Australia, earlier this year. The lecture was well attended, and chaired by Professor Bongani Mayosi and Professor George Mensah.

The Awareness, Surveillance, Advocacy and Prevention (A.S.A.P.) programme arose following the Drakensberg Declaration by delegates of the 1st All Africa Workshop on Rheumatic Fever and Rheumatic Heart Disease gathered at the Champagne Sports Resort in the Drakensberg, South Africa on 15 - 16 October 2005.
