PASCAR and Boston Scientific joint investment in Sub Sahara Africa

African Allied’s as faculty and developing of an Africa Allied’s Society in joint venture with Boston Scientific.

PASCAR and Boston Scientific initiated a partnership with the South African Interventional Society of Cathlab Allied Professionals Society (ISCAP) to develop, support and guide Sub Sahara African Allied’s to partake in educational initiatives as part of panels, speakers and chair opportunities during local and international meetings. Two Allied Professionals from Namibia were identified to engage with and be guided by Dianne Kerrigan President of ISCAP to represent Namibia Allied’s during the AfricaPCR Course and SA Heart Congress as panelist and faculty.  This is a pilot program and will based on success be rolled out to other countries to facilitate networking across Africa.  

PASCAR and ISCAP will with an unconditional educational grant from Boston Scientific support the first Allied’s Educational Workshop in Windhoek, Namibia on the 4th of June 2016. This workshop with specific topics has been developed to specifically cater for the educational needs identified by the Namibian Allied’s.  Local Allied’s will develop their own presentation content and be guided by Dianne with the goal to become self-sustaining and address the local needs for skills development.

PASCAR SunEcho Allied Program 

Edward Rieth was identified as candidate for an extensive 6 month training program in Echocardiography for qualified Clinical Technologist who specialise in cardiology. The course started on the 4th of April 2016 and will conclude on 30 September 2016. The host unit is Division of Cardiology, University of Stellenbosch and Tygerberg Hospital South Africa. The program is under the guidance of Prof Anton Doubell (Head of Department) and Dr Alfonso Pecoraro (Program Director).  The objective of the fellowship is to upgrade the candidate’s skills in specifically echocardiography for adults but also include paediatric.

The training program consist of the following

  • General echocardiography including pediatrics
  • Electrophysiology lectures
  • Cathlab hands on training
  • Hands on echocardiography training with tutor
