Pan African Pulmonary hypertension Cohort (PAPUCO)

  • 21 July 2014

The Pan African Pulmonary hypertension Cohort (PAPUCO) platform was launched in May 2011, at the PASCAR meeting held in Kampala, Uganda.

The aim of PAPUCO is to facilitate the study of a wide range of aspects of pulmonary hypertension, from both a clinical and an immunological perspective.

Within the first two years, 132 patients with pulmonary hypertension had been recruited to join the research project, and by the end of 2013 that number had gone up to 250.

Of the patients recruited, 50% have completed follow-up, and follow-up of the remaining patients should be completed by July 2014.

The PAPUCO group has developed close partnerships with many cardiac centres in Africa. The interest in PAPUCO remains high, with new centres showing great interest to participate.

The following map shows the areas of Africa that are already participating in PAPUCO, and those that intend to participate in the future.
